GLOBAL SENSE BALIPURA | DESTINATION BALI, INDONESIA | INTERVIEW WITH SUNDAR, (FOUNDER)
BEAUTIFUL BALI IS HOME FOR YOU NOW BUT WHERE DID YOU GROW UP AND WHAT WAS IT ABOUT THE ‘ISLAND OF THE GODS’ THAT FIRST STOLE YOUR HEART? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING ON BALI TIME?
I am originally from Argentina but on my very first visit I fell in love with Bali the moment I walked out of the plane. My heart was pounding and my instinct was telling me I would need more time here in order to fully understand the culture. Bali is a place where spiritual connection is present at every moment in the local community. I felt a great affinity with this and knew there was something important for me here. So I moved to Bali, without a plan, which felt something like jumping into nothingness and letting go of all the comforts I had back at home. I have been living in Bali for 9 years now. Looking back I would do this all over again too. Since moving to Bali I have learnt so much and been able to create a life with a perfect mix of locally inspired things. Healthy eating, healthy habits, meditation, yoga, cultural and ceremonial experiences and the creation of Balipura.
YOU ARE THE FOUNDER BEHIND BALI PURA, ONE OF BALI’S FAVOURITE ‘SLOW BEAUTY’ BRANDS. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THIS INTUITIVELY SUBLIME, SENSORIAL RANGE? HOW DID YOU KNOW AND WHAT IS THE SOUL INTENTION BEHIND YOUR BRAND?
When I made the decision to move to Bali I had no idea what I would do career wise but I was sure it was going to be exciting. To help find clarity in all areas of my life at the time I meditated (with a Gong) daily for 40 days straight and wrote in a journal to help track the process. The ideal: if I could imagine the best life ever, how would it be? What would I be doing, wearing, discussing and with whom etc.? It all came together at the end like pieces of a puzzle.
Balipura is all of my hobbies and interests combined. Balinese religion is called ‘Agama Tirta’ which means religion of water. The Balinese use water as a medium to transport energy and cleanse. This became the topic of interest that inspired me to study more of the properties of water as a transmitter of energy.
BALIPURA is a technique which combines ancient and new technologies to create healing vibrations that apply to the modern world.
IS THERE A DAILY RITUAL THAT YOU (OR YOUR BALINESE FRIENDS) RECOMMEND TO HELP INSPIRE MORE INNER CALM DURING UNCERTAIN TIMES?
There is a big collective consciousness around fear that has been building up and it is very easy to spiral into this feeling during difficult times. Daily meditation is a highly recommended practice to ground and centre self and to help understand what is truly being felt compared to feelings created from situations not related to self. Meditation helps to minimise thoughts to create more calm and clarity.
BLENDED BY HAND IN BALI USING PURE AND PLANT INGREDIENTS, CAN YOU SHARE A LITTLE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS THAT GOES INTO MAKING THE AURIC SPRAYS?
Yes. All of our products are natural and hand-made and there is no intervention of machines throughout the whole process. We purposefully choose this way in order to provide work for locals and support women empowerment. Products are infused with the direct energy of flowers, organic essential oils and energetic healing performed by our Balinese Priestess.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO USE BALIPURA TO MAXIMISE HARMONISING EFFECTS?
We recommend sticking to a daily routine. Just the same way body muscles are trained at the gym, our energetic field needs to be retrained to behave or respond in a different way. It is better to apply our products around the same time each day, either on waking or before sleep is great. The longer they are used the deeper the healing process.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT MOST ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING IN BALI?
I love to be in complete harmony and exposure to the elements. I love taking trips to the jungle to feel more connected and creative. While in Bali my inner creativity seems to flourish more and I feel more self aware. I also love to witness the way Balinese people see life and how they find balance in their daily lives.
BALI HAS BEEN IMPACTED GREATLY BY THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC. CHALLENGING FOR MOST, BUT WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST ELATED FEELING AS AN OUTCOME DURING THIS ALTERED STATE?
As with many places, the situation in Bali has been difficult for the local community as they mostly depend on tourism. But what I did notice during this time was the many stories and realities going on at the same time. We do have the power to decide what information feeds us and can also be responsible for our own reality to some extent, which ultimately provides freedom to take charge of our own destiny, and, to be more aware of what we focus on so that the right seeds are planted to create a positive way forward.
DO YOU HAVE A RECENT LOCAL TIP FOR TRAVELLERS VISITING THE ISLAND, HOPEFULLY SOON?
I feel Bali has many different layers going on at the same time which all seem to be intertwined together harmoniously. From relaxing beach days or wild surf sessions to scenic mountains, tropical forests and river exploring, but the most authentic Balinese experience is their local culture. I definitely suggest taking part in their more cultural activities. There are many water blessing ceremonies with priests in sacred springs that are a truly sacred travel experience.
